[Kenta Kobashi Update] It is being reported on Japanese news sites that Kobashi had underwent an examination on his neck following his retirement match on May 11th and the test results have come back that there were no problems found.
Kobashi was reported to have had pains in his neck following his last match and he went to the hospital that night. Though it seems Kobashi can now rest easy knowing that he is healthy, and there was mention that he plans to take his wife on their much needed honeymoon.
Kobashi had just recently underwent surgery last year in July and the recuperation time from that surgery is what kept him from being able to make his original plans to retire in February of this year.
This is good news for Kobashi and I personally hope all the best to Kobashi and his future plans.
[Real Japan News] It was announced that The First Tiger Mask will be facing Naomichi Marufuji, one on one, for RJPW’s upcoming show on June 7th.
Marufuji and Tiger have faced off once before in singles competition back on March 10, 2006, in which Tiger pulled out the victory via pinfall. This was still noted as a strong showing for Marufuji at the time and much respect was show from Tiger himself. Though two have tag together at least on two separate occasions and this will mark the singles match between the two since 7 years and 3 months. This will be yet another encounter between the old and new prodigy’s of wrestler.

[NOAH News] Pro Wrestling NOAH announced the next defenses for the GHC Heavyweight and GHC Tag titles.
First up is KENTA defending the GHC Heavyweight belt against Toru Yano on June 2nd. Following his 2nd defense of this past weekend against Sugiura, no one actually came forward to him face to face. Though earlier in the night Toru Yano, following his team’s successful defense of the tag titles, actually made a call out that he wants a shot at the GHC singles belt.
Well that brings us to a day later, and KENTA announced that he will take Yano up on his offer on the condition that him and Takayama get a tag title shot soon following. So it seems things have been set in place to happen in early June.
KENTA and Takayama of course won the Global Tag League in April and earned themselves the right to challenge for the tag belts, and KENTA has stated that he wants to not only bring the tag belts home where they belong, but to also be called a double crown champion. KENTA aims to continue this new chapter in NOAH by doing his best show after show.
Also following the shows this weekend, Takashi Sugiura has joined officially joined alongside KENTA and NO MERCY. There seemed to be a lot of respect between KENTA and Sugi following their fierce battle over the GHC and a partnership between the two was agreed upon in the ring right after the match. What this means for Sugiura and his ex-group in BRAVE is unknown, but the two groups will be facing off in the next tour later this month. It should also be noted that Sugiura is an officer in NOAH, and it should be interesting to see if anything comes in to play with his power within NOAH.
Below are the announced title matches that will take place in June.
NOAH “Southern Navig. 2013”, 6/2/2013 [Sun] 17:00 @ Hakata Starlanes

[NOAH Update] During today’s NOAH show, Akira Taue announced that he would be retiring from active competition this December.
Of course, I posted this news in the daily results on the website, but I noticed some other details that I thought should be shared.
http://www.puroresuspirit.com/2013/05/12/results-for-may-12-2013/
Apparently Taue aims to retire this December at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo. No official date nor time has been set, but where it will happen has indeed been determined.
Taue aims to retire and dedicate himself fully as the acting President of Pro Wrestling NOAH, or in other words he wants to concentrate on the future of the promotion.
It seems that Taue was going to announce his retirement sooner, but due to Takeshi Rikio’s announcement to retire in November of 2011 and the news that Kobashi was going to make the following year, Taue decided to hold off on his own announcement.
Taue has competed in the ring only a few occasions in the last couple of years and he stated that it is the right time for him to make the formal announcement.
Of course Kenta Kobashi just retired from professional wrestling a day ago, 5/11, and this makes 3 of the 4 “Corners of Heaven” officially done with wrestling as of the end of this year. I would say all 4, but Toshiaki Kawada has not formally announced a retirement of any kind. From what has gathered, Kawada has merely just taken some much needed time away to rest and run his own personal ramen shop.
Though speaking of Kawada, if he were to indeed return? Could we seen a last return of the “Holy Demon Army”? Kawada is one of the few remaining figures in Taue’s career and it would definitely mark a huge moment if Kawada made his return, at least for this final show for Taue.
[NOAH News] NOAH announced that SUWA will be unable to compete at today’s, 5/12, Korakuen Hall show as he is suffering from a cervical spine injury. There was no mention of the severity of the injury, but given it is so early in the day I doubt he has undergone an full examination at this time. Expect an update once the details are known.
His scheduled match has been changed accordingly with an interesting addition with a Maybach SUWA Jr., whoever that might actually be is unknown at this time.

[Match of the Day - Kenta Kobashi Series] Here is the tenth match of this eleven match series, as we countdown to Kenta Kobashi’s official retirement on May 11th.
Kenta Kobashi vs. Kensuke Sasaki from July 18, 2005 at Destiny 2005 at the Tokyo Dome.
Considered to be two of the strongest brute force wrestlers in Japan. These two are known for their brutal chops and their hard hitting lariats. Both are very similar in terms of their career rise and have held numerous titles throughout their careers. This singles showdown was the ultimate dream match for many fans who grew up watching these two throughout their careers. There is a lot of pride and determination from both to win and they go to great lengths to try and show that there is no quit between them. That includes taking whatever big maneuvers the other has and getting back up to their feet. This leads to one of the most noteworthy moments in the match as these two end up having the lengthiest, back and forth, chop battle in the history of puroresu. Both Kobashi and Sasaki would show their fighting spirit and manage to keep the fans in attendance enthralled throughout the match.
Bonus match: Kenta Kobashi & Go Shiozaki vs. Kensuke Sasaki & Katsuhiko Nakajima from November 5, 2005 at the Nippon Budokan.
[May Event Updates for All Japan and NOAH] Both All Japan and NOAH released updates for their upcoming shows later this month.
All Japan also announced that KENSO will miss the upcoming tour as he has been told to relax for the month after he suffered from pneumothorax, or a partial collapsed lung, to his left lung. KENSO will be undergoing evaluation by physicians in the next few days and could undergo surgery depending on the severity of the issue.
All Japan announced the full cards for all of their shows, excluding the final show of the tour on June 2nd, among the outside talent involved is HUB from DRAGON GATE/Okinawa Pro who will be competing throughout the tour. The tour will be primarily headlined with LAST REVOLUTION vs. Burning, with the two groups facing off in a 10 man elimination tag match on May 26th.
On the NOAH side of things, they will have two back to back big shows this weekend with Kobashi’s final show tomorrow then Sunday with a big show at the Korakuen Hall. Later in the month they will be kicking off the “Northern Navigation” tour as they will be holding both standard and charity shows in the northern region of the country. This will mark Daisuke Harada’s first tour with NOAH and he will have a few high profile matches to kick off his new beginning. Among the outside talent involved in the tour will be Yoshihiro Takayama, who will be competing for a few shows, and Daisuke Ikeda who will be involved in a tag match on the May 17th show.

[Match of the Day - Kenta Kobashi Series] Here is the ninth match of this eleven match series, as we countdown to Kenta Kobashi’s official retirement on May 11th.
Kenta Kobashi vs. Jun Akiyama, GHC Heavyweight Championship Match, from July 10, 2004 at the Tokyo Dome.
This event would be NOAH’s first event ever at the Tokyo Dome and this would be an explosive match through and through. Akiyama was the leader of the new generation heading into this match and was eager to finally topple the established star in Kobashi in a high profile match.. and you cannot get any more high profile than at the Tokyo Dome.
These two have a very well documented past, Akiyama made his debut against Kobashi back in 1992 and has managed to beat his sempai in the past, most notably during NOAH’s debut show. That win would mark a huge win for Akiyama and signify that he was the leader of the new generation in NOAH. From 2000 to 2004, we would see Kobashi’s “Burning” faction against Akiyama’s “Sterness” faction back and forth much of the time. Akiyama, at this time, was already a former GHC Heavyweight Champion, the 2nd in history, following a big win over Misawa back in 2001, but now he was given a chance to show what he had against Kobashi in the biggest stage of them all.
Kobashi on the other hand was on the verge of making history with his reign as champion by already knocking off 8 other high profile wrestlers… from Tamon Honda, Masahiro Chono, Bison Smith, Yuji Nagata, Yoshihiro Takayama, and others. Of all the opponents that Kobashi would face in his reign this match against Akiyama would go down as one of the best, if not “the” best.
[Match of the Day - Kenta Kobashi Series] Here is the eight match of this eleven match series, as we countdown to Kenta Kobashi’s official retirement on May 11th.
Kenta Kobashi vs. Mitsuharu Misawa, GHC Heavyweight Championship Match, from March 1, 2003 at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.
The ultimate rival showdown, through much of Kobashi’s career Misawa stood the victor much of the time. This time around it was on new soil with Pro Wrestling NOAH.
Kobashi had a rough time with injuries from 2000-2002 that would keep him from any real title reigns with the new promotion. Though 2003 would fair well for Kobashi and he would finally earn himself a title match against none other than his longtime rival in Misawa, more specifically following a tag match as he teamed with Taue to take on Misawa and Masahiro Chono.
This would be one of the last singles bout between the two, and this is a true must see match in Kobashi’s career. You might even say that this is definitively one of the best matches in NOAH’s history.
[NOAH News] Pro Wrestling NOAH held a public press conference and signing ceremony for their upcoming show on May 12th at the Korakuen Hall.
With Kenta Kobashi retiring just a day before this show, the main theme for the May 12th show is a new beginning for NOAH. The show will be called “Ark New Chapter” and will be the theme for the show as everyone involved will be trying to show what they will bring for the future.
The main event especially between KENTA and Sugiura will definitely be seen for that. Sugiura stated that he is honored to have received the next defense, considering his last reign was very strong, and he himself has been “born again” following the injury he suffered that last year. Sugiura aims to show his best and he said that he will grip the helm and see that NOAH goes forward.
KENTA stated that he will protect the belt and continue on strong with his first ever reign. Sugiura has been one of KENTA’s more notable opponents in the last year and these two have shown that they can be very much physical against one another. KENTA wants to face the best challengers possible and he knows that he can get the best out of himself against Sugiura.
TMDK, Mikey Nicholls and Shane Haste, would like to bring the GHC Tag belts back home to NOAH where they belong. TMDK has been competing in NOAH for roughly 2 years now and they both agreed that they belong to NOAH. They have already proven that they can beat the champions, with their win during the Global Tag League, but will they be able to claim victory again, now that the tag belts are on the line, is the real question.
Below is the card for the May 12th show.
(1) Ark New Chapter Opening Match: Taiji Ishimori vs. Hitoshi Kumano
(2) Go Forward Tag Match: Naomichi Marufuji & Yoshinari Ogawa vs. SUWA & GENBA
(3) Battle of Spirits Single Match: Mohammed Yone vs. Maybach Taniguchi
(4) Momo no Seishun Showdown Single Match: Atsushi Kotoge vs. Daisuke Harada
(5) BATTLE THE SUPER HEAVY Single Match: Takeshi Morishima vs. Yoshihiro Takayama (Takayama Hall)
(6) GHC Tag Championship Match: [28th Champions] “CHAOS” Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka (NJPW) vs. [Challengers] “TMDK” Mikey Nicholls & Shane Haste
~ 1st title defense.
(7) GHC Heavyweight Championship Match: [19th Champion] KENTA vs. [Challenger] Takashi Sugiura
~ 2nd title defense.

[Match of the Day - Kenta Kobashi Series] Well with the start of the new month I have decided to try and start posting a match of the day here on the PS page. It came to my mind earlier that it would be fitting to kick off this daily video post with a series dedicated to Kenta Kobashi.
As many of you should know, Kenta Kobashi will be officially retiring from professional wrestling on May 11th, so I have found it fitting to post a match everyday in honor of Kobashi here on the page leading up to his retirement.
I will be posting 11 matches of the next few days, chronologically, that I feel best represents Kobashi’s legacy. Below is the first match in the series….
Jumbo Tsuruta, Masanobu Fuchi & Akira Taue vs. Kenta Kobashi, Mitsuharu Misawa & Toshiaki Kawada from April 20, 1991.
[Everyone was against each other in this match, Jumbo and Misawa had their feud, Taue and Kawada had theirs, and Kobashi especially was heading into this match with wanting to exact revenge on Fuchi for stomping his face into a bloody pulp in a previous encounter.]
I chose this match to kick off the series as I think it definitely marks a solid beginning of Kobashi’s rise to fame.
A special thanks to Chris J for helping me out with this series.
[NOAH/Osaka Pro News] Daisuke Harada [26] has officially announced that he will be joining Pro Wrestling NOAH as of May 2, 2013.
It was announced late last month that 6 wrestlers from Osaka Pro-Wrestling would be leaving the promotion for undisclosed reasons.
This was big news for Harada to announce that he was leaving as he was the leading champion of the promotion at the time. Harada made the announcement during the April 29th Osaka Pro show of his plans to join NOAH. The 26 years old was in tears as he made this announcement as Osaka Pro has been his life since he debuted in August of 2006.
Harada stands 168cm talls and weighs in at 90kg with his signature move being the Katayama German Suplex Hold.
There was no mention if Harada will be re-forming his old tag team “Momo no Seishun” with Atsushi Kotoge, who himself left Osaka Pro last year to join NOAH, but it would be safe to assume so, especially with NOAH holding their Jr. Tag League in July.
Best of luck to Harada as he takes this big step in his career.
[NOAH News/Marufuji Update] If you missed the news yesterday, Naomichi Marufuji suffered a right knee injury during the show on April 14th. It was originally announced that Maru would only miss the next couple of upcoming shows as they were trying to remain optimistic that the injury was not severe.
NOAH has updated today, April 16th, that Marufuji is suffering from ligament damage in his right knee and he will be unable to compete for the rest of the tour. NOAH said that a return date has not been determined at this time, and that details involving his place in the GTL will be announced soon.
In regards to the GTL, a replacement for Takashi Sugiura has been decided as he will be teaming with, his fellow BRAVE teammate, Atsushi Kotoge for the rest of the scheduled GTL matches.
Outside of NOAH, Marufuji is scheduled to compete in Ring of Honor in early in May, but it may be safe to assume that a replacement may be decided upon soon.
[NOAH News] It has been announced that Naomichi Marufuji will miss the next scheduled shows on April 16th and 17th. It seems NOAH is holding off on making an announcement to if he will miss the rest of the GLOBAL TAG LEAGUE tour, but his next scheduled “GTL block match” is not until April 20th when him and Sugiura take on Nicholls & Haste.
As I announced in yesterday’s results, Marufuji suffered the injury to his right knee in his scheduled 6 man tag match. The source I spoke to said that he suffered the injury when he was sliding out of the ring.
Marufuji is scheduled to compete in the Ring of Honor wrestling early next month, but as of this time things seem to be optimistic that the injury may not be that severe. I will do my best to keep you all posted when more information is released.
