[NJPW News] New Japan announced the early event card for the upcoming DOMINION show in Osaka, Japan on June 21.

Five headlining matches have been announced for the show, with 4 out of the 5 being title matches.

First up Shinsuke Nakamura will be putting the IWGP IC belt on the line against the runner-up of this years NEW JAPAN CUP in Bad Luck Fale. This match will be a rematch from that tournament’s final where Nakamura ended up as the winner. Fale has been leaving his mark in recent month by taking out everyone in front of him with his “monster-like” strength and size. This will mark Fale’s first ever singles throne challenge in NJPW and if their NJC match was any indication this one should be a solid contest.

Also “King Ace” the team of Hiroshi Tanahashi & Togi Makabe will be getting their IWGP Tag title shot against Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows on the show. King Ace earned this right after beating Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata at the Yokohama Arena on 5/25 and will be looking to take their strong alliance to a championship reign.

Kota Ibushi’s next IWGP Jr. defense has been set as well as he will be putting the belt on the line again the winner of the upcoming BEST OF THE SUPER Jr.’s XXI. Ibushi himself will not be competing in this years tournament, but as I stated before this opens the field for a true contender to emerge to face the champion.

In an interesting turn of events, the reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles “will not” be defending the belt at this years DOMINION show, but instead will be in a tag match as he teams with fellow BULLET CLUB member Yujiro Takahashi as they take on Kazuchika Okada and Tomohiro Ishii. This match will also be a potential prelude to a future NEVER Openweight match as Ishii has been challenged by Yujiro for a title match. One might also suspect that Okada and Ishii will be looking to exact some much needed revenge after Yujiro defected from the CHAOS faction to join BULLET CLUB.

Then lastly, an NWA World Tag match has also been signed as Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima will be defending against “K.E.S.” Lancer Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr.

Kazushi Sakuraba & Katsuyori Shibata have also been scheduled for competition on the show.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling “DOMINION 6.21”, 6/21/2014 [Sat] 17:00 @ BODYMAKER COLOSSEUM in Osaka

(-) Special Tag Match: Kazuchika Okada & Tomohiro Ishii vs. AJ Styles & Yujiro Takahashi

(-) NWA World Tag Championship Match: [75th Champions] Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima vs. [Challengers] Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr.
    ~ 3rd title defense.

(-) IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship Match: [67th Champion] Kota Ibushi vs. [Challenger] (Winner of the BOSJ XXI)
    ~ 4th title defense.

(-) IWGP Tag Championship Match: [64th Champions] “The Machine Gun” Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows vs. [Challengers] “King Ace” Hiroshi Tanahashi & Togi Makabe
    ~ 5th title defense.

(-) IWGP Intercontinental Championship Match: [8th Champion] Shinsuke Nakamura vs. [Challenger] Bad Luck Fale
    ~ 2nd title defense.

  9. Notes: 15 / 3 months ago

[NJPW News] New Japan held a press conference for the main event title matches for tomorrow’s return to the Yokohama Arena.

First up is the signing ceremony for the IWGP Intercontinental Champion as Shinsuke Nakamura is set to defend against Daniel Gracie. This match has a lot at stake for Nakamura in particular as he has is looking for a much needed revenge over Daniel in a MMA rules match roughly 11 and a half years ago. Daniel appears confident heading into this title match against Nakamura and aims to further demonstrate the power of “Gracie Jiu-Jitsu”. He noted the previous singles match, in which he defeated Nakamura, and said that this time he will be walking out as the new champion. Nakamura noted that Daniel Gracie is a formidable opponent and that it is an honor for him to get a chance at another singles contest. He said that he is excited for the match, but again he is ready to start his new reign off right win a much needed win for himself. Nakamura was then asked about the match being MMA rules in which he stated that he aims to fight as a “professional wrestler”.

Up next was the singing ceremony for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship as AJ Styles will be defending against the former champion Kazuchika Okada, in what will be a rematch from early this month on May 3rd. Okada stated that his current goal is to destroy BULLET CLUB and regain the belt. He noted the loss in the 3WAY during the ROH/NJPW joint show in the USA last weekend, and that loss did not matter as he was not pinned. Styles then stated back that Okada has a lot of excuses to why he is losing. That he couldn’t beat AJ Styles in Fukuoka and he couldn’t beat him in New York. Styles further added that Okada’s problem is that he is too young for the business and to be in the ring with AJ Styles. AJ said that he has taken advatange of all the oppurtunities in front of him and that is why he has seen repeated success as a champion and why he is now an IWGP champion. He then said that the only thing “raining” is himself.
Styles was then asked, assuming that he wins again, who he wants to face the next challenger? AJ confidently replied that “there is no assuming, that he will defend the belt.” Styles said that is not up to him to decide who he gets to wrestle, but it doesn’t matter whether it be Nakamura… Tanahashi, he will beat whoever is put in front of him, just like Okada.

Then I will let this video speak for itself as the closing moments of the press conference.

NJPW Event Cards for May & June 2014

[NJPW News] New Japan announced the full event card for their next big upcoming show which will be on May 25th at the Yokohama Arena.

Following the outcome(s) of Wrestling Dontaku on May 3rd, New Japan will now be heading back to the Yokohama Arena with the aftermath. The main event will see Kazuchika Okada looking for complete revenge as he will be getting a rematch for the IWGP Heavyweight belt which he lost to AJ Styles, “and the BULLET CLUB”. Though Styles is already booked to defend his newly acquired belt on May 17th for Ring of Honor wrestling against Michael Elgin. The winner of that match will then head to Japan to take on Okada.

The semi-final match will see Shinsuke Nakamura putting his IWGP IC belt on the line against Daniel Gracie in a Pro-Wrestling vs. Jiu Jitsu mixed style match. Daniel made the challenge for the belt following the tag match at Wrestling Dontaku and Nakamura was quick to agree to the singles challenge. This match also has a lot more on the line as Daniel and Shinsuke have faced before in a MMA rules match back at “INOKI BOM BAYE 2002”, when Daniel forced Shinsuke to tap out in the 2nd round of the fight. Nakamura not only appears to have revenge on his mind, but also pride of defending his belt against Daniel.

Hiroshi Tanahashi & Togi Makabe have managed to put together quite a formidable alliance as they will be facing off against Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata to determine the next contenders for the IWGP Tag belts. Shibata made the challenge to Tanahashi, which at first looked to be a singles challenge, but with Makabe and Goto also in the ring the match appeared to be that of a tag challenge instead. There is no love-loss between Tanahashi and Shibata and this could easily be one of the more heated matches of the night.

The reigning IWGP Junior Champion, Kota Ibushi, will not be making a defense of his belt at the show, but he will though be getting a shot at Tomohiro Ishii and the NEVER Openweight belt. Ibushi made the challenge following his defense of the belt against Ryusuke Taguchi and then Ishii’s defense of the NEVER against Tomoaki Honma. These two initially faced off in a special tag match during the final day of the “G1 CLIMAX 2013” and intensity was indeed shown between the two. This should be a match to keep an eye out for.

Also announced is Kazushi Sakuraba looking to get his revenge on Rolles Gracie as the two will be facing off in the first match of two to feature Pro-Wrestling vs. Jiu Jitsu rules. Then Tetsuya Naito will be looking for revenge from the “NEW JAPAN CUP” earlier this year as he faces off against the semi-finalist in Bad Luck Fale. Both are looking for the right to become challengers for a singles belt and this match could put either one of them in line for a title match of their choosing.

Below is the event card in full.

~ Taguchi and Devitt shook hands after the match.

If you are unaware there has been plenty of talk that Devitt is “potentially” WWE bound, and this could very well have settled everything that needs to be before Devitt heads out of NJPW.
Of course this also opens things up for Devitt to “come back” and potentially rekindle the Apollo55 team with Taguchi. - CP/BushidoRX

[NJPW News Part 2] New Japan announced the full card for the upcoming “INVASION ATTACK 2014” iPPV on April 6.

The main event will see the IWGP Intercontinental belt once more on the line when Hiroshi Tanahashi defends against the NEW JAPAN CUP 2014 winner Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura wants another shot at the belt that he feels belong solely to him and this could very well be his last chance as he already 0-2, 1/4 & 2/9, to Tanahashi this year alone. Nakamura’s mind is solely on recapturing the belt and is looking to carry the momentum from the NJC to total victory.

The semi-final match will see the IWGP Tag belts on the line as Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows defend against the alliance of Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata. Anderson and Goto  are no strangers in the past in being both tag partners and rivals in the ring. Now they both have new tag partners, with Anderson finding success with Gallows, and Goto is looking to align himself with his childhood friend as they try and claim the top prize as a tag team.

Tetsuya Naito claimed a win over Tomohiro Ishii in the NEW JAPAN CUP and has set himself up for a rematch for the NEVER Openweight belt on the iPPV. Before the NJC though, Naito did pick up another win over Ishii and he feels that the momentum for another NEVER reign is firmly in his grasp.

The runner-up in the NEW JAPAN CUP, Bad Luck Fale will not be receiving an IWGP Heavyweight match at the iPPV, though he will be receiving a chance to line himself up either further in the standings as he takes on Okada in a tag match. Fale could indeed earn himself a challenge against Okada in the near future with a win, or at least even a strong showing against the champ.

Ryusuke Taguchi will be getting another chance to settle the score once and for all against Prince Devitt as the two are scheduled to face in singles competition. Taguchi has been trying to reclaim a top position as a New Japan junior since his return from injury, but has yet to get the much needed win to begin the climb back up. Due to the position of this match it appears that a contender for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight belt could be potentially decided upon as well.

Daniel & Rolles Gracie will once again be competing in the New Japan ring, but this time they will be taking on the rule-breaking heels in Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka. Before joining NJPW, Yano was a skilled amateur grappler in his own right, even Iizuka as well before he went over the edge as a full-blooded wild man. It should be interesting to see the Gracies in a new match-up, but more so to see where they will be going following the match.

The event will also see the NWA World Tag belts on the line as Rob Conway & Jax Dane once more defend the belts against Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima. Kojima being the NWA World Heavyweight Champion as well, could be looking to claim the feat that Conway did last year in being a double NWA Champion.

Then the opening contest of the show will see the IWGP Junior Tag belts on the line as the Young Bucks defend against the team of Kota Ibushi & El Desperado. New Japan is clearly looking to start the event off with an explosive start as all four men utilize a lot of aerial feats and quick moves.

Below is the card in full.
